I was reading this on my mother tongue and it touched my heart deeply, hence I chose to translate it and share it with you.
It reminded me of some of my happiest moments as a child. Some of my happiest moments were sitting down with my grandmother listening to her tell me stories; parables; about life. She would share a lot of her life, mistakes, experiences and learnings with me. We would sit together side by side and she would teach me to cook, paint, fix things, gardening, dancing and more. We would go for long walks and also spent quite a bit of time reading. At other times I would be surrounded by both of my grandparents and their friends; we forget just how much wisdom the elderly can share with us. I have always treasure those moments and through my darkest times it was the memories of those moments and the things I learned from them that helped carry me through. Don’t be so ready to dismiss sitting down with the elderly, their worlds are full of beautiful experiences and painful lessons which can help all of us learn from the wisdom hence developed. We may have more technology and find ourselves living in the “fast” lane, but let me remind you that life moves in cycles and those cycles tend to repeat themselves, therefore don’t be so quick to dismiss the elderly for they have had their share to overcome and know just what it takes to get through to the other side…their age has taught them what really matters in life and more often than not, they are eager to share but we got to be willing to listen!
“GRANDMOTHER, HOW IS PAIN ADDRESSED?”
With your hands, honey. If you do it with your mind, instead of letting go of the pain, it becomes even harder.”
“With the hands grandma?”
“Yes. Our hands are the antennae of our soul. If you move them by weaving, cooking, painting, playing or sinking them into the ground, you send signals of care to the deepest part of you. And your soul lights up, because you are lending it attention. Then the pain signals will no longer be necessary. “
“Are hands really that important?”
“Yes, my daughter. Think of babies: they begin to know the world thanks to the touch of their little hands. If you look at the hands of the elderly, they tell you more about their lives than any other part of their body. Everything that is made by hand, it is said to come from the heart, because it goes like this: the hands and the heart are connected. Healers know this well, when they touch another person’s body with their hands, they create a deep connection. it is from this connection that healing comes. Think of lovers: when they touch their hands, they make love in a more sublime way. “
“Grandmother I can’t remember how long since I’ve used my hands like that!”
“Move them my love, start creating with them and everything within you will move. The pain will not simply pass; it won’t just stop hurting; instead whatever you create with your hands will become the most beautiful masterpiece and then you will not hurt anymore because you will have been able to transform its essence. “
