Lost Angel

**There are two groups of people I am very passionate about, orphans and the homeless. This poem is dedicated to them.

A green bench on the pavement
A small head reclines over a battered old flower pot
A homeless child with no home and no cot

His eyes closing...lost
Trying to will himself to another place
His story can be read if you look closely at his face

Painful thoughts and memories stir in his mind
Gone is the childhood promise of joy and wonder
A promise lost with the wind and thunder

As he sleeps, he lets himself dare to dream
Love and freedom are what his soul seeks
Yet his dreams are nothing but a carpet of regret
Full of pain and empty promises
Short lived bittersweet moments
Happiness has become his great opponent

As the darkness of the night grows
The cold, the fear, the hunger and the pain take hold
Sweet innocent child whose life has been robbed
He wants to taste joy yet he cannot

Desperately he seeks for love and peace
Yet as the sickening truth hits his heart
This little angel starts to surrender to the dark

His desperate attitude is there
Yet bravely he conceals the pain
His soul aches for a hero
Yet he hides the cry for help

"Who would run?"
Reality comes in rushing
Feeling like a ghost within a strange world
At times seen by a kind face
But only for a little moment
Then he is forgotten
He becomes lost in the memory of those
Who walk by as if he is nothing!

"Why am I here?" he does not understand
"What have I done to deserve this?"
"What did I miss?"
Lost to a world that treats him as if he were non-existent
Childhood joy always so distant

A world too busy seeking the next best thing
"Why won't someone see me?"
"Why won't they open their door to me?"

He forgets he is an angel
Who temporarily has lost his wings
He was never meant for this cold world
He is from another plane
He is from another place
A place full of laughter, love and spring!

As tears roll down his cheeks
His fatal reality becomes all too clear
In the absence of love
He crucifies his innocence
With one last sigh, he lets go
A star is now born!
The angels rejoice...
In heaven the love he sought abundantly grows

I tell you my child, love those who need it most
And when you look at a star remember
The light you so admire, once belonged to a soul
A sweet innocent child
Who only wanted to be accepted and loved

Do not let the darkness of this world engulf you
Do not let their callousness eat your heart and soul
For a homeless child is waiting
And he is an angel in disguise
To cherish a child's love is to live in paradise!

I passionately believe one person can make a difference. I write from my own experiences and interests. It is my greatest hope that by writing about my own challenges, victories, hopes and learnings, others may feel inspired to believe more in their inner power and to fully embrace themselves!
